The Greenman, linked to Dionysus and to the Green Knight of the Grail cycle, is an image of rebirth and renewal and governs rites of spring. As keeper of forests and groves, the Greenman wants to harness nature’s energy.
The Magician, like the alchemical Mercurius, is a duplex figure. As both transformer and that in need of transformation he/she can use either magic or mischief as ally in the process of integration; can concentrate and direct energy coming from the unconscious; and can simultaneously discriminate or unite to attain understanding.
